  3. funded, the institute is independent. The BSI
  4. interprets international technical standards
  5. for the UK, and also sets its own. For 
  6. consumer goods, it sets standards which 
  7. products should reach (the BS standard), as 
  8. well as testing products to see that they 
  9. conform to that standard before they are
  10. given the "kite mark".
